G4 Tequila Meet the Maker Tasting and Signing – South Lamar
May 8 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“In the Jalisco Highlands, no name carries more weight, and in recent years no one has created more buzz than Felipe
Camarena” – Wyatt Peabody, Punch Drink. Felipe, a civil engineer with education in both mechanical and chemical
engineering, has built El Pandillo distillery into the most forward-thinking distillery in all of Mexico. In crafting G4 Tequila,
Felipe holds together the heritage of his family, the traditions of making artisan tequila, innovations that save energy and the planet all while never sacrificing at any step in making the best tequila possible.
The Camarena Family
Felipe’s family is one of the founding families of Arandas in the Los Altos Highlands of Jalisco, with the family’s history in Mexico tracing back to the early 18th Century. The family has long been stewards of the land, doing what would be called
organic farming before it was ever a consideration. The Camarenas have been raising agave on their lands for 6 generations. Fruit trees planted around the perimeter to help bring pollinators to the fields. Felipe even created a method
to recycle the vinazas – the residue after distillation – adding organic material to become fertilizer. Felipe’s concern and care for the land and the agave grown in the red volcanic soil are well-known.
The Camarena family has been distilling tequila since Felipe’s grandfather, Don Felipe Camarena, built the legendary La Alteña distillery in 1937. The family’s original distillery never produced tequila, as burned to the ground in the Mexican
Revolution of 1910. The tahona is the only thing that survived.
